Farm Financial Standards Council Case Study Essay
Farm Financial Standards Council Case Study - Essay Example Activity based costing on the basis of identified and mutually agreed activities and grouped under Production Cost Centers, Support Cost Centers and Profit Centers is definitely a more logical and inclusive approach as it traces the flow of all agricultural inputs and outputs. It is similar to process costing methods used in the manufacturing industries where the cost of every subsequent department is added to the previous ones and after elimination of waste products, we are left with the final cost of the finished products as they emerge from the last department into the finished goods inventory. For a farm the finished product would be the different crops produced. Although the first solution is more amenable to the situation at John and Maryââ¬â¢s Farm, the second is proposed as a better starting point for any type of agricultural enterprise. The benefits of the first solution are that it uses well regarded units such as acres for corn crop and bushels for soybean marketing whi ch are logical and make very good sense (Case Study, pp 6-7). The reports generated in the first solution are also quite detailed and show quarter-wise production costs and expenses for each crop planted and reaped. There are also reports of inventories of different crops produced and sold, which includes cost per bushel or acre as well as in dollar terms. Such type of management reporting and control is a farmerââ¬â¢s dream. He is able to know the costs and expenses on all that he has grown so that he can price it better in the marketplace. Of course the second solution just proposes an alternative and more logical starting point for all types of agricultural enterprises, and would be an invaluable guide to using the ABC method for newly established farming organizations. It is definitely more detailed and logical. ABC information can even be used to reengineer processes and make other improvements to quality while still cutting costs (www.prosci.com/abc1.htm). 2. If the Farm Co uncil Case did not use Activity Based Costing, identify several dysfunctional decisions that could be made using traditional cost allocation. Which solution do you prefer, the initial or alternative solution proposed in the case? Explain the difference between the suggested solution and alternative solution. As we already know, activity based costing and volume based costing are the two alternative methods in use today, in many enterprises across the world. The drawbacks of the traditional or volume based costing methods are well known. It seeks to allocate indirect costs or overheads on arbitrary bases like machine hours used or labor hours consumed that are not truly representative of costs incurred on various activities or products produced (Roztocki, 1998). ABC method on the other hand focuses on indirect costs or overheads, tracing each expense to a particular cost object. It makes indirect expenses more directly attributable to products and activities. ABC is particularly pref erred when overheads are high and products are diverse. The basic premise of ABC is that cost object consume activities and activities consume resources. Resource consumption drives costs, and understanding the relationship between resource consumption and activities is critical to managing overhead. If the farm chose to use traditional costing methods instead of activity

The Name of the Business Essay Example for Free
The Name of the Business Essay Any person or company uses a name to represent a business. It gives the business its own identification. So when choosing the name I had to think about whether the name gives out a good image to my target market. I also had to think about whether my target market would respond to the name and I had to justify how they may observe it. I needed the name of my business short and catchy so that it is appealing to the younger generation. A business name that not only symbolizes the business but makes it a high popularity as this name has to stay the same for the whole of the business venture. Some business may relate their name to their profession as this then gives a clear, instant idea of what the business actually does for example AC electrical services this then prevents any misunderstandings and gives an instant communication with his/hers customers because the name is telling us exactly what the profession is. After a lot of thought I came to the conclusion of naming my milkshake company, Shake-About. I decided on this name as I believe that it is catchy and symbolizes the service given to the public. I also believe that the name is neither complicated nor hard to remember so it will appeal to my target market, which is teenagers. I have done a lot of research into other milkshake companies to confirm that I am not copywriting another businesses name as this would be breaking the law and I could be at risk of being sued. After a lot of research into what kind of business I wanted to design I came to the conclusion that I wanted to go into the catering business. The reason I wanted to go into this sort of business was mainly because I thought it could be an interesting business to get involved into and also I have had past experience in the sector. It will be a seasonal business meaning in summer we will have more business than in winter. Innovation and enterprise is important in this business because if it wasnt unique then it wouldnt stand out from amongst the competitors and so our market share would remain at a standstill. Our idea will shine out amongst the competition and so we hope it will bring us more customers. We keep enterprising in mind, and therefore we are always thinking of new ideas to improve it, such as setting up a mobile business from a customized van like an ice cream van. This van will circle round the city to local hang-out spots like parks and playgrounds. Using this initiative, we will be able to sell our products to a wider audience as it will be easier for us to go to them, rather than them coming to us. Extra costs will have to be added for fuel, etc. As an entrepreneur I have chosen to work within a partnership as once the business has expanded I would need more people to help me keep up with the work loads. Also I felt that having another person in my business would give me diversity and would be good to have another persons input rather than just my own. Also if I had a day where I am not able to come into work for example I was on holiday or ill I would still be able to keep my business going as I have another person to help me out. We have calculated and weighed up the risks of the business as a number of small businesses start up and then fail so we are prepared if that situation arises. We are very hopeful about this business as it is a one of a kind on the Algarve; with the right mind set we will be able to make this a successful reality. We believe our customers will love it as the temperature in Portugal can get extremely high therefore a nice milkshake on a warm day will appeal to many people.

Kata pengantar
Penyusun I. Pendahuluan A. Latar Belakang Pembuatan alat ini adalah untuk memenuhi tugas RBL (Research Based Learning) Mata Kuliah Fisika Dasar IA. Restaurant Quality and Why Its a Never Ending Technique Essay examples
Quality area unit some things that is exhausting to stipulate as a results of if you raise ten people they will give you ten altogether completely different answers. this text area unit that specialize in why quality is so important among the edifice business. restaurants got to perceive that the quality of their product and repair unit of measurement being evaluated daily by every shopper. every shopper evaluates the quality of the merchandise service on each and every visit. thus you will be able to exclusively deliver the products the foremost effective quality accomplish able if you target it all the time. the aim of this text is to look at what quality is among the Sports Bar Promotions edifice business and why rising the quality may be a endless technique. As I declared earlier quality is improbably exhausting to stipulate as a results of all contains a completely completely different definition or scan of what the quality of the merchandise or service got to be. Take the recent chestnut beauty is among the attention of the person and substitute quality for beauty. The definition of quality among the edifice is completely completely different for each guest and changes on every visit. every edifice wishes to satisfy or exceed the guest standards on every visit but that is nearly inconceivable. Why is merely simply ask? it's as a results of the guest standards unit of measurement frequently dynamic. that is one all told the reasons why it is a never ending technique to spice up quality. As we tend to attempt to boost the quality of the merchandise by raising standards and implementing new policies our customers perceive this and their perceptions of quality in addition rise. this could be why it is not attainable to be sensi... ...ice that they are expecting but every guest are yearning for some type of experience. The Failings of Mr. And Mrs. Elliot Essay -- Mr. and Mrs. Elliot Essay
The Failings of Mr. And Mrs. Elliot à à à This cynical look at a less than ideal marriage keeps the reader at a distance. The opening sentence startles in its baldness "Mr. and Mrs. Elliot tried very hard to have a baby" and the second sentence destroys any illusions that the Elliots are enjoying this by stating that "They tried as often as Mrs. Elliot could stand it"(Hemingway 85). à The second paragraph uses one long, oddly convoluted sentence to describe their courtship and subsequent marriage. It isn't until the third paragraph that either is referred to by a first name and then young Mr. Hubert Elliot's career is discussed. Mrs. Elliot's age has already been revealed, she is forty, and now Hubert's age is given as twenty five. This disparity in ages is explained by the fact that Hubert has been keeping "himself pure so that he could bring to his wife the same purity of mind and body that he expected of her"(85). The very thing that girls his age laugh at is what endears him to his friend at the tea shop, Cornelia. à She, too, is quite pure and they are delighted to have found each other, even if his mother cries over their marriage. Later she "brightened very much when she learned they were going to live abroad"(86). Perhaps she's relieved that the newlyweds will be out of reach of the wagging tongues of neighbors and friends. à The happy couple spends much time kissing and congratulating themselves on having remained pure. Apparently marriage wasn't in Hubert's plans, he can't even "remember just when it was decided that they were to be married"(86). But they do marry and the wedding night proves to be disappointing, the impression being that two such pure souls have no clue how to make love. A... ...friends of her own, concentrating instead on making that baby and typing Hubert's poetry. There is also a tendency to accept at face value some things that would arouse suspicion in a more thoughtful (or less desparate) person. "Hubert explained to her that he had leaned that way of kissing from hearing a fellow tell a story once"(86). à It might be easy to feel sympathy for such deluded people, creating their own traps and convincing themselves that they are so very happy. But the slightly sarcastic edge of the narrative combined with the distance maintained throughout instead works to encourage contempt. At the end of the story it's easy to dismiss the Elliots as having made their bed. Now they'll just have to sleep in it. à Works Cited Hemingway, Ernest. "Mr. and Mrs. Eliot." The Short Stories. Aetna: A Target Market Analysis Essay -- Market Research
Overview: With an evolving market in the various fields marketing, companies needed to readjust their and update their marketing strategies. Centuries ago, a company that needed to market for its products would just post a paper note at the main town street and if people liked the product it would be sold. In the 21st century, marketing became an essential field and necessary branch in any company that plans to succeed. Aetna recognized this necessity and while analyzing the companyââ¬â¢s strategies and structure, one can recognize the un-doubtful organization in identifying their target market. Through the creation of different subsidiaries, Aetna, Inc. is able to organize its target market and classify their various services based on the target marketââ¬â¢s specific demographics. Primary and Secondary Target Markets Being a giant in the insurance market in the United States, Aetna, Incââ¬â¢s target market is widely spread and canââ¬â¢t be simply classified in primary and secondary targets. The companyââ¬â¢s target marketââ¬â¢s however, can be divided into two general markets with each having different classifications. Aetnaââ¬â¢s target markets can be divided into an American market and an international one. Within the American market, Aetna divided itself into subsidiaries each concentrating on a specific target market. Outside of the American market, Aetna created Aetna International to specifically target various non-American markets. Within Aetnaââ¬â¢s primary target market, there are seven subsidiaries that target the various American markets. Six of these subsidiaries aim at the various markets in the United States while the seventh aim towards improving the collective services offered by Aetna through the delivery of various health ... ... Postal Rule of Acceptance
Four main justifications of Postal Acceptance Rule i. ââ¬ËAd infinitumââ¬â¢ Justification Postal rule had existed almost for 200 years and the post had been creating problems for people which the courts are obliged to solve them logically. Why it had been creating so many problems for people and that we will be discussing later on. For now letââ¬â¢s look at the four main justifications for postal rule of acceptance. It came from Treitel and he believes that the four main justifications are for the creation of postal rule.First of all, the first justification is the ââ¬Å"Ad Infinitumâ⬠justification where its main rationale is that acceptance by post has to be valid on posting because if there were no postings which mean there is no contract formed. Based on the case of Adam v Lindsell, the defendant actually mail the offer of selling wool to plaintiff and the plaintiff was requested on mailing back to the defendant. Unfortunately there was an error in the offered pric e and plaintiff did not receive it.We can thus conclude that the defendant had not receive the letter of acceptance and therefore the defendant assume that the plaintiff did not want to accept his offer so he sold the wool to a third party. There was actually a contract exists before the sale of the wool because acceptance made right after the mail is being mailed. Therefore, the defendant was liable in breach of contract. In this case, it might go on ad infinitum because once mail is being posted which means that acceptance is being made.Of course, there is a high level of uncertainty because of the distance between the two parties causing them difficulties for the formation of contract. ii. ââ¬ËSymbolic Actââ¬â¢ Justification In this justification, rationale being that the offeror must be considered as continually making (the offer) until he has brought to the knowledge of the person to whom it made that it is withdraw. Based on the case of Brogden v Directors of Metropolita n Railway Co, there was a contract sent by the defendant (Directors of Metropolitan Railway) to the plaintiff (Brogden) regarding the contract. The plaintiff agreed the contract by signing it and return to the defendant. The defendant then filled in the blanks without informing the plaintiff about the acceptance. Since there is no acceptance being communicated between the both parties, the plaintiff did not supply the company with coals. Thus, there was subsequently a dispute arose that whether the written agreement was valid. Although the action of communication of acceptance had not been showed clearly, in fact the written agreement was valid despite no acceptance being informed.Reason being both parties had already agreed on the terms of the contract without any objections. In the real world, we do not see an offeror consistently making an offer to people, and subsequently this justification seems to be attempting to affect a useful acceptance rule rather than providing any real r ationale for the postal rule. ââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬â [ 1 ].
